Are your teeth looking longer than they used to? If they are, your gums might be receding. There are many different things that can cause this, including gum disease, tartar buildup, and excessive brushing or brushing with medium or hard bristles.
A receding gumline is what happens when your gum tissue surrounding your teeth pulls away from them leading to more of the tooth and root being exposed. It’s one of the most common dental problems, with up to 12 out of a hundred people having it, often without even knowing.
If untreated, receding gums can lead to several very serious complications, such as losing one or more teeth, or even losing bone mass from your jaw. You have to be careful, because gum recession can happen so slowly you don’t immediately realize it’s happening.
Several options for graft are available, with taking tissue from the roof of your mouth being the most common. Other options are taking tissue from a tissue bank and reshaping the gums around the affected teeth to cover more of them. We will help you decide what is best.
