Have you fallen victim to tooth loss or periodontal disease? Are you interested in dental implants but you don’t have enough bone structure to support them? If you’ve answered “yes” to one or both of these questions, a bone graft treatment in Tustin, California, might be the best option for you.
Bone graft treatment is used to reverse jaw bone loss and to build up bone to allow for the placement of dental implants. There are four different types of bone grafts available, and our OC Advanced Periodontics team is more than happy to tell you all about them. The different bone grafts include:
-Autogenous Bone Graft: This bone graft involves the transplant of bone from one area of the patient’s body to another. This is the most ideal type of bone graft because the bone is living tissue and it enhances bone growth.
-Allograft Bone Graft: This bone graft involves the use of bone that has been donated from another human. To ensure success, the bone is tested in many different treatment sequences in order to render it safe for transplant.
-Xenograft Bone Graft: This bone graft involves the use of bovine bone, which is bone that is donated from a cow. This bone is processed at extremely high temperatures to reduce the risks of immune rejection and contamination.
-Alloplastic Bone Graft: This bone graft involves the use of synthetic bone. The bone is generally created with hydroxyapatite, which is a naturally occurring mineral that is found in bone. It can also be made of bioactive glass. This type of graft is commonly used because of its hardness and acceptability by bone.
